Ohio’s annual Sales Tax Holiday returns this year—bigger and longer than ever. From August 1 through August 14, 2025, shoppers across Ohio can enjoy two full weeks of tax-free shopping on most items under $500.
What’s Tax-Free?
During the holiday, tangible personal property priced at $500 or less per item is exempt from sales tax. This includes:
- Clothing
- School supplies
- Electronics
- Home/Office Furniture and Appliances
- Sports equipment
- Tools – Including construction equipment
- Meals at restaurants (non-alcoholic)
What’s Not Included?
Not everything qualifies. These items do not get the tax break:
- Alcohol, tobacco, vape, and marijuana products
- Services (e.g., repairs, cleaning)
- Motor vehicles and boats
Tips for Shoppers
- $500 limit is per item—not total purchase
- Coupons can help items qualify if they drop the price below $500
- Online orders count if paid for during the holiday window
- Shipping is tax-free if the entire order qualifies
For Businesses
Retailers must participate and apply the tax exemption. Make sure your POS systems are ready to report exempt sales properly during the holiday period.
